Bon, André

Born in 1946. He studied composition with Olivier Messiaen and music analysis with Jean-Pierre Guézec at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris. At the same time he followed the course about electro-acoustic music with Pierre Schaeffer and François Bayle at the GRM of Radio France. 1974-1976 In residence at the Villa Medicis in Rome.

He earns a lot of distinctions for his work: 1975 Lili Boulanger Prize. 1979 Hervé Dugardin Prize from the french author's society SACEM. 1982 Sabbatical bursary for composition from the French Ministry of Culture. 1987 Prize for the best French musical production awarded by the organization of music and theater critics for his opera The rape of Persephone. 1988 Prize for New Talent from the dramatic author's society SACD. 1991 Composer in residence at the Atlantic Art Center in Florida. 1992 Composers' Prize from the SACEM. 1993 Composer in residence at the American Foundation in La Napoule. 1993 Prize for the best French musical production awarded by the SACEM for the cantata Les vallées du cinéma.

1993 Prize Samuel Rousseau from the Académie des Beaux-Arts for his opera Girl with a Book. 1995 Prize Monbinne from the Académie des Beaux-Arts. 1996 Wolf-Ebermann Prize (Munich) from the International Theater Institute for his opera Girl with a Book. His catalogue comprises about forty works. At the same time as his numerous activities in the French musical life he teaches Contemporary Musicology at the University of Aix en Provence (1987-1990). Actually he is teaching at an institute for future conservatory lecturers.
