Born 1954 - Dakar, Senegal Alain Féron received a degree in Music History at the Faculté de Toulouse-le-Mirail, a subsidiary of the University of Toulouse.

In 1981, he began studies with Ahmed Essyad. This was a decisive encounter that placed his work and musical train of thought in the line of descendants that started with Schonberg, continued with Max Deutsch, and was later handed down to Deutsch’s closest student, Ahmed Essyad.

Alain Féron worked as a producer at France Musique from 1977 to 1980 and at France Culture from 1980 to 1985. He also oversaw the concert series entitled Perspectives du XXe Siècle at Radio France from 1985 to 1988.

He won the Prix Hervé Dugardin (SACEM, 1985) and has received grants from the Fondation Henry Clews (1989) as well as from the Fondation ORCOFI (1990, for his Opera L’Eve Future). In 1991, he received a scholarship from the Villa Médicis in Rome.

In addition to his activities as a composer, Alain Féron works as music critic for several newspapers and magazines. He has also written items in various enyclopedias and frequently writes commentaries for record jackets.

Member of the Académie Charles Cros since 1992, Alain Féron is currently composer-in-residence at the Conservatoire du XIVème arrondissement in Paris.
