Olympic Games Paris 1924

To mark the Paris Olympic Games, Durand Salabert Eschig have put together a playlist of our greatest masterpieces on the theme of sport.

At the heart of this selection is Claude Debussy's Jeux, a one-act ballet choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky. Commissioned by Serge Diaghilev for the Ballets Russes, this "poème dansé" evokes a tennis match interrupted by innocent games between a boy and two girls. Composed in difficult financial times for Debussy, Jeux is notable for its frequent changes of tempo and short thematic motifs, reflecting the energy and fluidity of sporting movements. This work, premiered in 1913 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, remains a captivating fusion of modernity and academic dance, perfectly suited to celebrate the musical spirit of the Olympic Games.
