Éric Tanguy - "Sonate en écho"

World premiere of Éric Tanguy's Sonata en echo to open the Cello Fan festival on 1 July.

“Composed in 2019, the "Sonata en echo" is the result of a request by Florent and Frédéric Audibert, commissioned by the Callian Cello Fan Festival.

The score is structured in three distinct movements which each explore, with specific tempos and through characteristic motifs, different ways of questioning and answering that are constantly renewed.

The title of the work therefore comes from this constant idea of playing in echo and the perpetual transformation of these echoes. In this dialogue between two cellos, with a continuous harmonic and melodic modality, there is a playful spirit which is expressed both virtuosically and lyrically, without forgetting the melancholic instrumental song, in particular in the second movement.

The fact that Florent and Frédéric Audibert are brothers and cellists also undoubtedly played a role in the conception of the sound characteristics of this work which seeks to say the same thing with two voices, but in a different way.

The Sonate en écho is dedicated to them with great fondness."
