Opera and novel, the two epic arts of our culture, have this in common that they lend themselves to an endless game of rewritings and interpretations.

Le Premier Cercle, the famous opera by Gilbert Amy, returns next June at the Opéra de Massy with this game of redistricting and rearranging, like its inspiration, the no less famous eponymous novel by Alexandre Soljenitsyne of which we know how many it has been the object of transformations over the course of its multiple editions.

Reoriented from its initial version of 1999 on a few essential protagonists, the theatrical action will focus on the “very first” circle of the concentration camp environment so particular to the dark years of Stalinism. A hymn to interior freedom and human rights to be discovered on June 2 and 4.
