The Festival di Milano Musica will host at the legendary Teatro alla Scala "Miniatures" piano premiere by Yan Maresz performed by Mariangela Vacatello.

Here is text by the composer about the work: 

These "Miniatures" are the start of a larger project, of which the final number of pieces is currently unknown.

The artistic project is based on 4 central works still to come, using the fundamental modes of sound production, and which will be surrounded by a number of pieces of traditional pianistic techniques.

We could then see this cycle of "Miniatures" as a multitude of satellites revolving around these four fundamental parts using the breath, the friction, the strike and the wave agitation resulting from an electronic signal broadcast by a miniature loudspeaker on the soundboard. In the end, I also like the idea of building a cycle around pivots that ultimately may never see the light of day...

These first four "Miniatures" explore once again some of the fundamental issues in my work: local and formal polyrhythm, cyclicity and mobility, suspension, rhythmic Vuza canons. They are dedicated to Mariangela Vacatello.
