"Fanfare", the new work for brass ensemble by Philippe Manoury will be premiered on 8 November 2020 at the Kölner Philharmonie by musicians of the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln.

Here is some words by the composer about the work:

A fanfare should be like a signal and an invitation. A signal that a concert will (re)start and an invitation to prepare for it. Placed to the left and to the right of the ensemble, the 4 trumpets start with repeated notes, soon joined by the 4 horns with very virtuosic motifs. These two groups eventually merge to then introduce the central group, made up of the 3 trombones and the tuba, playing a kind of slow chorale that moves into the extreme registers of the instruments. Then comes a rhythm section in which all the instruments come together in the same movement until the trumpets add echoes of the opening. A coda once again brings everyone together.
