Pascal Dusapin - Release of the disc "Passion"

It was an anomaly within the dense discography of Pascal Dusapin's works: his opera, "Passion", first performed at the Aix-en-Provence festival in 2008 and whose production by Sasha Waltz two seasons later enthralled audiences throughout Europe (Paris, Lille, Brussels, etc.), had not yet been the subject of a recording.

No sooner said than done, with a large part of the work's original cast: the Ensemble Moderne conducted by the supreme Frank Ollu, Georg Nigl, the unforgettable "Him", not to mention the enigmatic harpsichord of Ueli Wiget and the methodical electronic part of Thierry Coduys. Barbara Hannigan's sensual and fatal "Her" is replaced here by Keren Motseri and the Vocalconsort of Berlin performs "The Others" (replacing the Musicatreize ensemble from the premiere).

Undoubtedly one of the author's most intimate works, put into an infinite and endlessly recurring sequence of his most personal mythologies through the founding myth of the lyrical genre, Passion has forever conquered the opera houses; this first recording, elevated by the flawless acoustics of the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and a key figure of the German radio scene, should also win over for life the most discerning discophiles and music lovers.

Extract from the article by Helmut Mauro published on November 3, 2020 in Sueddeutsche Zeitung:

“The Modern Ensemble recorded the opera “Passion ”. A masterpiece.
You absolutely have to listen to the unique world of Dusapin, in which archaic sadness and modern melancholy merge into an authentically fascinating sound vision. A wonder in the sound spaces and the play of light, a summit of strangeness and familiarity, of selflessness and belief, of insecurity and self-confidence. "
