Claude Debussy - "Pelléas et Mélisande" (critical edition)

The adventure of a critical edition like that of Debussy, started by Pierre Boulez and François Lesure, is similar to a long odyssey whose twists and turns are never known in advance. Led by women and men of faith, prepared to face the surprises and disappointments that come with such a unique journey, this kind of adventure also offers moments of accomplishment comparable to those of a world premiere or an overwhelming performance. Such is the case with the publication in the coming weeks of the critical edition of the orchestral score (PO) of Pelléas et Mélisande, alongside the piano-vocal score already available.

The discovery of unpublished passages sacrificed in the name of dramaturgical efficiency, brought in line with the piano-vocal score, prepared by Debussy in an asynchronous manner with the work during the process of orchestration and finalisation, the removal of certain incoherences that had persisted within the "historical" material: the list is long of corrected inconsistencies long-awaited by the whole international lyrical community of this major achievement in musicology.

Meet the creators of this landmark publication, Edmond Lemaître and Denis Herlin, before soon being able to discover on the stage a Pelléas et Mélisande more authentic than ever!
