Benjamin Attahir, La Femme fendue

Benjamin Attahir, La Femme fendue

At the crossroads of Eastern and Western musical traditions as well as ancient and contemporary repertoires, the unique work of Benjamin Attahir opens up fascinating perspectives that are recognised and appreciated during the biggest musical seasons.

After their chamber opera Un Grain de Figue, premiered at the Villa Medici in 2017, Benjamin Attahir and his librettist Lancelot Hamelin are continuing their collaboration with La Femme fendue, which will be premiered at the Philharmonie de Paris at the start of the 201819 season.

A new milestone for the composer in his exploration of personal lyric writing, this work will mirror both spoken and internal voices, both vocal utterances and instrumental writing in an anguished asymmetry in which it will be hard to distinguish the allegorical from the real an ideal introductory subject for a new season rich in first-rate creations.

World premiere
7 September 2018, Jennifer Decker (comedian) with Renaud Capuçon (violin), Philharmonie de Paris, France
