"Missing" by Edith Canat de Chizy

"Missing", last violin concerto by Edith Canat de Chizy will have it world premiere on 23 March 2017 by Orchestre national de France conducted by John Storgards and Fanny Clamagirand as soloist, at the Auditorium de Radio France.

The composer gave some indications about the piece.

"This concerto is a tribute to Devy Erlih, a devoted actor of contemporary creation, who suddenly and roughly died on 7 February 2012 in a traffic accident, hence the title I gave to this work, and this haiku at the end of the score: "Particle inside / the cold bright sun of winter, / I would like to go".

As a violinist myself, I have been seeking to enlarge the instrument's register by using harmonics, tremolos, flautando, bariolages, all generating non-tempered spectres, and a large world of timbres completing and amplifying the orchestral writing.

I wished to expand the sound space in which the violin resonates with the orchestra by organising the registers - especially the extreme high and low-pitched - with echoes in the score.

Far from the classical tradition of the concerto form, the soloist and the orchestra are closely linked."
