All about Pascal Dusapin

Pascal Dusapin is definitely busy at the moment. To be sung, a wonderful chamber opera, is being performed at La Monnaie, a venue that has forged a faithful bond with Pascal Dusapin. Premiered in 1994 at the Théâtre des Amandiers, in the framework of the Festival d’Automne, this work, with its original scenography by James Turrell, based on a text by Gertrude Stein “A lyrical opera made by two”, innovated as much in the use of the voice (three solo soprano) as in the instrumental writing, together with electronics. This new production will give the opportunity to rediscover the third opera by Pascal Dusapin, this time directed by Sjaron Minailo.

His residency is also coming to an end with the Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire, which, under the direction of Pascal Rophé, celebrates today’s music. But before that Pascal Dusapin’s violin concerto Aufgang, premiered by Renaud Capuçon in 2013, will be performed by the great Carolin Widmann. The closing concert will be comprised of three virtuoso Solos for orchestra (Go, Extenso, Apex) virtuoso for orchestra but also Wenn du dem Wind (based on his last opera Penthesilea) with the magnificent soprano, Karen Vourc’h.

Not to be missed also, “Mille Plateaux” exhibited at the Nantes Lieu unique, a sound and light installation made by Pascal Dusapin himself (with the collaboration of Thierry Coduys and Guillaume Jacquemin) - “The music for Mille plateaux comes from a wind sculpture that inhales and exhales all over the world.”

And finally, Passion is being performed at the legendary Sydney Opera House, Jørn Utzon’s architectural masterpiece, proof that Dusapin’s music is present all around the world.
